While I do not think that at first I will be able to give up all sugary drinks, it is my goal to make them an occasional special treat, instead of the daily staple they currently are. I would love to hear how you drink more water and if you have given up sugary drinks all together, how you did it. Leave me a comment below.
ok here goes….. I gave up sodas (coke, Dr. Pepper, Ginger Ale) about two years ago. This is going to sound hard core but I just stopped buying it and refused to drink it. My 22 year old son hasn’t drank a soda since he was in the 8th grade, and my 17 year old son stopped drinking sodas when I did. Husband still likes his cokes but only has 2 per week. We did not ween ourselves – went cold turkey – it was the only way and it wasn’t that difficult. (I also did the same thing with smoking cigarettes 2 years ago, and now caffeine (only decaf for me). Just gotta find something to replace it. I chose breathing… it sounds crazy, but I just deep breathing to get rid of the thought of wanting a soda. Yoga helps too! Then of course is the whole thing about how much weight gain those sugary drinks put on our bodies. Look, I’m 51 years old – at this point everything I did in my 30’s and 40’s (all the bad choices) is now catching up with me so I had to turn it around quickly! Chew sugarless gum, breathe, exercise, play with the dog, do whatever it takes and you will find your way to quit a bad habit. You can do it, anyone can… no excuses. I love those water diffusers and putting peaches or lemons/limes inside – so refreshing!!! That’s all I have… just my humble opinion! xoxo Erica

Erica, thanks for the comment. I am so impressed that you went cold turkey without so many things. I find that I use caffeine as a crutch, on those days that I do not sleep well. I am trying to fix that as well and the more I look at getting healthy, the more I see that everything is intertwined and we have to do it all to truly be successful. I am going to try and be more like you!!! Thanks for the motivation and support.
