I have done a lot of research into how to get healthy by working out and to be honest, some of the views were a little extreme, especially for this girl just starting out. Some people believe that getting up 2 hours before you normally do, to go to the gym is the best way to get healthy. I am sure that doing 2 hours of exercise 7 days a week would whip me in to shape in no time, but I know that life style would not be maintainable. I have instead decided to wake up 30 minutes earlier than I normally do, Monday thru Friday to workout. I found these 5 really cool 30 day challenge sheets that I have been doing for the last 10 days and I really have really enjoyed it because as someone just starting to workout, the slow ramp up has really helped. What I have learned more than anything about working out is that it is meant to make you better. You do not have to achieve all you goals over night and doing one more push up than you did yesterday should always be considered an accomplishment.
I think the most important part about getting healthy by working out is to be consistent and set realistic expectation for yourself in the beginning. I do not plan on only working out for 20 minutes a day forever, but in the beginning, doing 20 minutes a day for 30 days in the morning is a start.
What fitness goals did you set for yourself when you were first starting out? How have you maintained motivation to keep with these goals? Leave me a comment below, I would love to hear from you.
