Resolution: Get Healthy

daily-motivation-94

I know I have done a lot of posts of getting healthy, but there has been inaction on my behalf. That being said, I know what to do to be healthy, but have lacked the motivation to do those things for a long time. I have been searching for ways to motivate myself and here are the top five things that have helped, besides Cody.

  1. Buzzfeed Way to Motivate Yourself

  2. Listen to my pump up music playlist on Spotify

  3. The Berry’s Daily Motivation

  4. Put my before picture on my phones home screen

  5. My health

Turn Your Dreams Into Goals

My dream is to lose weight and get healthy. I want to be able to ski all day, buy clothing from any store and a million other things.

Plan Backwards From Your End Goals

Workout for 30 minutes, 5 days a week (minimum)

Replace 2 meals a day with a shake

  • This sounds simple, but sometimes bad food sounds so good. With this I just need to remember, FOOD IS FUEL.

  • Here is a list of other meal replacement ideas (link)

Make health dinners at home 5 nights a week

Get 6-8 hours of sleep

Drink 64 oz of water

  • My friend Melissa says that carrying around a bottle with me all the time will help. I am going to put this into practice and start tracking my consumption.

  • Check out my post on Getting Healthy By Drinking Water

Log all meals on Lose It

  • I have used Lose It before, but have never been consistent. My goal is to use this long term and track my food, exercise and water.

  • FYI, Lose It is a free weight loss app for iPhone and Android that helps you achieve sustainable healthy weight loss. This tool includes an app as well as a website so you can see your information on your computer as well. You can connect to people, your various devices and food information that will help you lose weight with smart decisions. Lose It helps you create a personalized weight loss plan with goals that include a goal weight as well as total wellness and fitness. The app includes access to a verified food database that helps you track your calories with easy searching, or add custom foods and you can share recipes. You can also scan a UPC to add food. Lose It connects to other apps like RunKeeper, Nike+ and a variety of devices and scales to help you track all of your fitness data easily and intelligently. You can create goals with a group of friends, challenge friends or yourself and get support from the group to stay on track.

Cut back on sweets

  • I am going to be baking less and coming with healthy versions on recipes I love.

  • When I do have sweets, I am going to enjoy them but have less of the treat.

Cut soda consumption

  • 2 a day in January

  • 1 a day in February

Get Psyched

I have already mentioned my top 5 motivation tools and I use them all the time, but when all else fails I turn on my motivation playlist and I cannot help but get psyched!

Test and Tweak

Missing a day or making a bad choice is going to happen, so when it does identify why it did and tweak plans to make sure it happens a little less.

Be Honest With Yourself

Losing weigh and getting healthy is a long time goal, one that cannot be achieved by the end of the day. Be honest with yourself, set realistic times to accomplish goals and understand, a number is just that, a number.

Learn From Others

There tons of articles, books and blogs about getting healthy and losing weight. Ask friends and read, read, read. I love Buzz Feed HealthHow Does SheHealth, and Tone It Up.

Spread The Word

Tell your friends and ask for support. My friend Lisa is so awesome. She loves encouraging others to achieve their goals. We should all be like her! Let’s support each other.

So what are your health goals? I would love to hear from you.

  1. I love that last image. That’s very much my philosophy, but I’m the type who is ready to cheer on everyone at the gym. Because it’s hard! However, I just silently cheer people on: one day I had this really sweaty guy high five me after I finished my treadmill work, and I did think it was a little weird. I understood, but dude.

I seem to have plateaued with my own weight loss attempts. I’m kinda happy with my weight now, so I’m not being as dedicated as I could be. Ideally I would lose just a few more pounds to give me a cushion for those times (like my birthday month) when I like to splurge.

Hope you have fun finding healthier recipes. You seem to enjoy cooking/baking, so that seems to be a positive way to channel some of your interests.
